At Hawk Eye Elementary we follow a S.O.A.R positive behavior intervention system (PBIS). S.O.A.R stands for Safety, Organized, Achievement, Respect. We teach children the appropriate behaviors for each area of the school building and for all times of the day (see rubric below). We will often be heard using the catch phrase "What does it look like? What does it sound like?" encouraging the students to think about how their body should look and their voices levels/appropriate talk.
What does this look like in our 1st grade class?
Prior to the students leaving the classroom for different reasons we will discuss what the expectations are for appropriate behavior. The students will help the teacher model the right AND wrong way to behave as this helps them visualize how they should be acting, plus it is fun! Be sure to ask your student if they are S.O.A.Ring each day! I'm certain they will be glad to share what they know about behavior in all areas of school.
As with all areas of our classroom, I welcome any questions or concerns!
